Pros and Con of Internet 3.0

Mark Schlerethh during an interview talks about how everything is now at a touch of the fingertips because of the internet. He talks about how stories are not reviewed thoroughly and just posted onto the internet. Schlerethh also talks about how bloggers are not held to any journalist integrity.  He states “ Being first is more important than being right but years ago being right was the only thing that mattered.” He talks about how being  first generates more buzz even if it is not necessarily correct. Schlerethh recounts how an analyst found a tweet from two years prior that Charles Barkley had wrote. Charles Barkley talked about how James Harden was not a good player and should be not have been drafted to the Oklahoma Thunders. Also, that Harden was not the best player on the team and would prove to be a big waste of money. Then Barkley says later that Harden is a good player. Barkley never did his homework on Harden, that is why he made a bad judgement call when  saying Harden was bad in the first place. But lots of people listen to him and unfortunately receive this kind of false information. So, he should think before he speaks.

In the book,LOL..Omg By Matt Ivester, he talks about the importance for college students to understand the difference between procedure in the real world versus procedure in the digital world. Ivester also, like Schlerethh, talks about how just about anybody with email has the ability to post a blog. Which means just about anybody in the world can add information to the internet that is not necessarily true. The user should be alert when accepting internet content at face value. An interesting difference between the offline world is that there is not much responsibility anyone must assume when saying something not true over the internet compared to the real world. The internet is filled with lots of biased information created by people. A lot of the information is not objective. The author points out how there are college students that make their lives seem so awesome, which causes other students to feel like they are missing out but these flashy students are just putting the most entertaining information on the the web that will make them look good. This is not a true representation of their real lives, just what is taken at face value. However, those pictures of partying like crazy and those crazy late night post are how people will perceive these students and future employers. Once it is on the internet, it is up forever and may forever damage the reputation of the student. This is a negative side of the internet.

Schlerethh  points out a positive side to the internet.  How social media is a great tool for promoting business but not selling merchandise. He talks about twitter as his marketing strategy. The Twitter users  communicate with him about his topics and they win free product. That is a way to get the word out about the product while  increasing followers. He also lets people have free samples of the product in a fun active role. There a huge connection between social media and marketing.  There are tools to help manage social media in Internet 3.0. There is a website called IFTTT that creates recipe program kind of like C++ programming layout that takes different applications and creates a recipe to create an automated command that a user must use. In the article The Big List of IFTTT Recipes: 40+ Hacks for Hardcore Social Media Productivity by Kevan Lee.He talks about some of the most powerful social aides in social media productivity. It has triggers for most of the social media giants which included instagram ,facebook , twitter and even more social media services. He talks about an app called add your instagram photos on buffer queue. This makes automated updates of instagram and post them on other social media sites. So places like twitter will also be updated on post from different accounts. This maximizes marketing productivity.

In article by IFTTT vs. Stringify: Which is the best service to connect all your smart-home devices? By Michael Ansaldo, it talks about an even better app than IFTTT called Stringify which does the same process as as IFTTT but has more complex options that can do more work so it is more personalized. This makes it the better app. However,  In the article Cool Cat Teacher Blog by Cool Cat Teacher she talks about some of the negatives of having sites like IFTTT have control over managing social media accounts. The app Diigo kept posting the words cool cat blog over again in an endless loop.  They were also linked to her twitter and facebook which caused a mess. She warns IFTTT user to stay away from automation recipes so this same thing will not happen to them. The internet 3.0 can have small downsides.
