The Final Blog
The semester has finally come to an end so this will be my last blog about information pertaining to good digital citizenship. In the book LOL... OMG by Matt Ivester he taught his audience the importance of being a good digital citizen and how to become a good digital citizen. The user should always watch out for the content they post and the content they “like” on social media. The user should always watch out for who they are friends with on social media, along with their privacy settings when they are posting content onto their social media accounts. Also, the user should always be thinking twice before posting content online because anything posted on the internet is considered forever.These were the biggest take away points from the book. In this class I did a research paper about Jofi Joseph, somebody who was fired for posting negative content about their coworkers and employer online, who was eventually fired. He went against a lot of the advice Ivester told us not to do when posting content online.
In the Untangling the Web by Steve Dembo , he taught everybody skills and new apps that can be used to enhance their academics. Some cool points of discussion from this book would have to be teaching the audience about curations tools like Evernote and Onenote. Also which curation tool would be the most effective for each individual. Most of the apps talked about in this book were demonstrated by Professor Calderwood which served as reinforcement to the book. Another, Important subject was about presentation tools and choosing the most effective one to appeal to the audience as an alternative to Powerpoint. A presentation tool I used for my oral presentation for the Jofi Joseph research paper was Google Slides. I chose it because it would autosave work as I typed. But the next presentation I do would have to be Prezi because It looked very appealing compared to Google Slides when looking at my peers work.
Throughout the duration of the class their would be a few live speakers that would come speak to the class via Skype.They would give us insight about different subject areas. Mr. Pierecy taught us about cool apps I have never seen like google engine which shows the aging of places over the years. Prof Calderwood also taught us about new augmented reality apps like Zookazam which I have never seen. Another important theme reinforced from the book that came from Skyping is using the internet as an educational tool. Gathering viewpoints and information from all over the world is the purpose of Skype. Another theme that emerged is the power of networking, it is very important and could give a leg up when looking for a job.
In general we have learned a lot about how to be a good virtual citizen and how to manage an online reputation. Also, how to be more productive with technology. It has been a good semester. Good luck to everybody!
