Steps to Posting Content Online

Online Etiquette

In the book , LOL..OMG! by Ivester, he explain the importance of people minding their manners online. The idea of online etiquette and social norms are determined by the internet’s online users. Ordinary people online speaking out against injustices have the power to shape the internet and decide what type of behavior is acceptable online. Ivester gives 10 steps of advice for judging personal behavior online.

In step 1 , the user should always be considerate when tagging people in post and other online activities that might mention their name.

In step 2, The user should always when interacting with people online take into account the person's tolerance level for jokes, insults, and ect…

In step, the user should be making sure anything posted does not violate any laws or policies that belong to any organizations associated with the user.

In step 4, the user must be made conscious to the effect of what would happen if everybody did the same actions or thought the same way as the user.
In step 5, if the user would not do the same behavior in the real world then it it probaby not accepted in the online world.

In step 6, if the user can not use their real name to endorse something they posted online then it should not be posted.

In step 7, the user should not post anything online in a highly emotional state.

In the 8, If the user is not comfortable with every single person in the world seeing something they posted then it should not be posted online.

In step 9, the user must make sure they are very clear and concise when posting information so it leaves no place for ambiguity by the readers.

In step 10, the most important step! The user must always make sure that the content they post represents them as a person and does not bring shame upon their name.

Online Reputability

(This video Illustrates what happens everybody rates one another online the type of world we would live in)

Ivester also talks about the importance of making sure someone is a reputable person before getting into any type of relationship with the individual. In the internet’s early days, the public thought very poorly of the internet. They saw it as a hang out for the degenerates of society and a place that information was kept unsafely. But over the years, with more people actively using the internet it has gained a more positive image in the eyes of the public and a reliable medium for conducting business. Social media has contributed to this image because people now use their real identities and give out real information about themselves. Ivester mentions the idea of taking all the information from all accounts around the world and turning them into a singular profile. This would increase the reputability and validate the information of an account. This would generate greater trust in the internet for the public. Soon in the near future, there will be more sites like Klout. This site gives ratings based on social media accounts. The scores are given out to the public and they describe the characteristics of a person. This system of rating people based on activity will cause for people to treat one another better online.

Website Builders

In class on Monday we learned from Prof Calderwood about building websites to create an online resume. Some of the website builder mentioned were Weebly, Wix, and Google Sites. My personal favorite after exploring Weebly because the layouts looked really nice and it was very easy to navigate the site.

The article, Weebly Expands Beyond Easy-to-Build websites, Adds Easy-to-Build Marketing Emails by Anthony Ha, explains that Weebly is powering towards making business emails more accessible for small business owners. A lot of people do not take advantage of these tools. Weebly uses their new tool called Promote which makes using business emails easier because it has the same interface as the Weebly site.

The article, Create Your Classroom Website Using Wix, Wix is described as a free website that is great for creating a classroom website. The website has customization features like theme templates. It has a share button so it can be easily used for social media sites. Wix can be seen as a fun alternative to google classroom which my brother uses in his school.

In the article, Know the Tools You Are Using: Which Website Builder is Best for Your Needs? by Business Matters, it compares the 4 top website building giants to one another. Squarespace is very popular however it cost about 12 dollars a month. It is a great site for constructing a personal website or a business website. The only downside to this site, is that it does not offer too many customization options. The next site Wix, the top website builder of 2017. It is also great for personal or business use. Wix has a free version. A unique feature in Wix is the drag and draw interface. Weebly is not as popular as the other sites, however it is one of the easiest to use. Weebly is a great option for a free and nice looking site. Lastly there is Shopify, which is exclusively geared towards business use. The site creates an online store and payment methods. It is an excellent site to use for business.

When picking a site it is important to think about how the site will be used overall. If the website is for business then Shopify, Squarespace, and Wix would be the Ideal sites to choose from. However, for personal use the best sites to choose from would have to be Weebly or Wix.
