The Final Blog

Image
The semester has finally come to an end so this will be my last blog about information pertaining to good digital citizenship. In the book LOL... OMG by Matt Ivester he taught his audience the importance of being a good digital citizen and how to become a good digital citizen. The user should always watch out for the content they post and the content they “like” on social media. The user should always watch out for who they are friends with on social media, along with their privacy settings when they are posting content onto their social media accounts. Also, the user should always be thinking twice before posting content online because anything posted on the internet is considered forever. These were the biggest take away points from the book. In this class I did a research paper about Jofi Joseph, somebody who was fired for posting negative content about their coworkers and employer online, who was eventually fired. He went against a lot of the advice Ivester told us not to do

Managing Online Reputation

In the book, Lol... Omg by Matt Ivester , he advises taking simple steps towards managing the immortal thing called an “online reputation.” He explains that managing an online reputation is not an overnight task, but a routine that is done regularly. There are seven simple task the user must perform on regular basis explained below. In his first tip, he recommends googling oneself. The act of googling myself is something I tried back in high school after a song came out by Teyana Taylor called Google Me . The hook went like this “ Ye' ain't nobody, Google me, baby. You better ask somebody, You better Google me, baby.” So I ended up googling myself often. I had found awards I had won in high school that were posted on the net and pictures of myself and others from Myspace accounts (before Facebook was a thing). The author recommends self googling at least once every three months. When In the process of googling oneself , the person should not be logged into their ow

Presentation Tools

Image
In class last week Prof Calderwood gave the class tutorials on different presentation tools like Prezi , Sway , and Haiku Deck . PowerPoint has been around for many years so people are getting tired of seeing the same stuff over again. This blog post will introduce the viewers to some new presentation tool alternatives. In Untangling the Web by Steve Dembo The author explains that the format for presenting information can be as important as the information itself. People can get bored when listening to the information if the visual effects are not effective. Most presenters  use Powerpoint to do presentations but slowly more people are using more exciting low cost online presentation tools. There are presentation tools that have broken the traditional linear range that presentations normally go and replaced them for something more interesting. When deciding on a presentation tool, the type of presentation needed,  the audience attending , and content being presented should

Protecting Digital Reputation In the book, LOL...OMG by Matt Ivester , the author talks about before posting the content on social media it is important to understand where content might end up, the people who will see it, and how people will react to the post. It is important to filter through content before posting it online and figure out the reason certain things should or should not be posted. Understanding the reason behind the action reduces the amount of risk taken when posting content. One of the potential hazards associated are temporarily impaired emotions like “drunk facebooking.” When someone with thousands of friends online writes something, everybody will see the message. This would make the content harder to renege in the face of such a huge audience. And timing is also important, If someone is currently in the eye of the public for whatever reason, they would have increasing eyes on them just waiting for a chance to scrutinize them. There are many ways

Being a Good Digital Citizen

In the book, Untangling the Internet by Steve Dembo, the author talks about the internet curation sites like delicious. These sites made a way for people to personalize information and at the same time make the information public so other users could use the information too. If someone was doing extensive research on a particular subject area, they could bookmark the website so it could be viewed later and sort the information based on personalized tags about the information for ease of access for themselves and others. These curation tools allow the user to collaborate ideas over the net with other groups of people. There are three types of curation tools and are specific to each job the user anticipates on doing . The curation tool called Symbaloo is great tool for simple easy use with less complication involved. It is ease of access with dashboard icons. The webmix makes it possible to customize information by providing a URL. The interface is simple and great for people no

Mark Schlerethh during an interview talks about how everything is now at a touch of the fingertips because of the internet. He talks about how stories are not reviewed thoroughly and just posted onto the internet. Schlerethh also talks about how bloggers are not held to any journalist integrity.  He states “ Being first is more important than being right but years ago being right was the only thing that mattered.” He talks about how being  first generates more buzz even if it is not necessarily correct. Schlerethh recounts how an analyst found a tweet from two years prior that Charles Barkley had wrote. Charles Barkley talked about how James Harden was not a good player and should be not have been drafted to the Oklahoma Thunders. Also, that Harden was not the best player on the team and would prove to be a big waste of money. Then Barkley says later that Harden is a good player. Barkley never did his homework on Harden, that is why he made a bad judgement call when  saying Harden wa
